Handmade in India
In West Bengal India, near the border with Bangladesh, large quantities of 50 liter packaging bales are used in tea farming for the processing and storage of fresh tea leaves. These bags were previously considered waste after production, because they are printed with logos and texts from the many local tea plantations.
After processing the tea leaves, they were often dumped as waste or even burned.
These bags are now collected for Baza Seeds in a unique sustainability project. The collectors receive a reward and our people clean the bags and select the different colors and structures. As a next step, patterns are cut out and go to the higher floor of our small factory, where colleagues take care of the next production phase on sewing machines. The cut-out patterns are processed into new shapes with neatly crafted precision.
If you have a model in your hands, take a look at the beautiful way in which the bottom rings are neatly finished with a piece of “sealing fabric”, or how the grow bags are neatly hemmed. Some bags are equipped with hanging rings, which make the products suitable for hanging gardening. This results in a whole series of mini-garden products made from a very strong and sustainable material from used packaging.
The final production phase will follow in Alkmaar Holland. A special soil mix is added, seeds are enclosed in special moisture-resistant bags, plant labels and instructions for use are added. The product is assembled into different themes, such as grow kits for tea, pepper, herbs, butterfly flower gardens, balcony gardens, etc. In the final phase, the products are set up in shop-displays and provided with the labeling that the retailer wishes. Since the start of this project in 2015, hundreds of thousands of Baza grow bags have been made and a very large number of used tea bags have been processed and recycled. A nice detail is that all Baza grow bags are unique, because they have a different print for every itme! So there is a lot to choose for the hobby gardener! We enjoy working with great people on great products! Products with a good story!
